Samuli Alonen

Samuli (b.1977) was allowed to grow up in a family where making art has always been present and where he was encouraged to realize his own strengths. Samuli, who is inclined to do by hand, studied design at the Kuopio Academy of Design.

During his studies, bronze aroused strong interest and immediately after graduating (2000) he realized his dreams and built his own studio in the Pykälistö guardhouse area in Jyväskylä. To support the creation of art, he acquired old train carriages and refurbished them for the tracks in the courtyard of the carriage gallery.

Citybird

At the beginning of the staging years, the making focused on wrought iron works and utensils. The relationship with bronze warmed sharply and the focus shifted from blacksmithing to bronze and steel works. Samuli’s business card has been sympathetic Citybird sculptures (2003 -), which have also flown abroad and are developing alongside their creators. At the other extreme of its size are large public works.
